Profile

The Class of Literature, integrated into the Graduate School Language & Literature Munich, is one of the most renowned doctoral programs in its field in Germany. It is supported by all faculties involved in literary studies at LMU Munich. The program offers a systematically structured curriculum with an emphasis on academic research, covering new ground both in terms of organization and of professional specialization.

The Class offers a research-oriented structure with excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary and international cooperation. The professors involved in the program represent a broad spectrum of theoretical positions, research methodologies, and different practical approaches.

Doctoral candidates in the Class of Literature benefit from individual supervision, regular discussions of their research projects in interdisciplinary colloquia, special seminars focusing on new developments in research, the provision of academic key qualifications, as well as various opportunities for professional exchange. The program also provides financial support for individual research and conference trips and is embedded in LMU's outstanding institutional and research-driven infrastructure.
